Online theatre workshop in a pandemic: an incredible adventure!

Renewing with irony has always been, for me, the way to rebirth in the worst moments.

Opening this path, I was afraid of finding listless, bored, and little confidence to work hard teens.

Instead, I found them, vigorous and full of life, ready to question themselves, to try and to learn.

A minimal time for listening to, read and speak English, or at least try it.

At the same time, a digital space where to meet and to understand what a monologue is.

What does it mean to go on stage with a monologue?

Of course, we didn't go on stage. We are in pandemic time, and theatres are closed. We hope to be able to do it one day.

We worked on a second option: a recording-on set, where we appreciate the effort. A dynamic virtual shared experience. "Oh dear me, I am afraid! ... yes, but it's so exciting."

Emily chose a funny story: The Giant Oranges, for which I once again thank Jeana with www.dramanotebook.com.

A new piece, perhaps none of us had ever heard it before.

No stereotypes: Emily herself was the source of her inspiration for her character.

Build the characters, study the text, find gestures and poses.

Being careful of the light while listening to the teacher who corrects and, even your soul has something to tell you and, please, be careful of the Italian pronunciation. "Oh dear me, I am afraid! ... yes, but it's so exciting."

How is it to be a character on whose head oranges are raining on?

What happens when everyone turns into giant oranges?

It seems funny, but ... does the character laugh?

Maybe yes, maybe no. Let's see!

"Unfortunately, I don't see your face; look for a white wall; turn a little to the right, stay more behind ... When people are transformed, you have to look in front of you and get scared or amazed or surprised.

How does your character feel?

And, how do you feeling?

Did you memorize well? - yes, even going for a walk with my dogs, I would repeat the piece aloud!

Memorizing the text is the boring part of the theatre, but it is necessary. With everything you do when you go on stage, you can't afford to read, look in the wrong place, not have worked on memory and pronunciation. "Brava Emily! You worked on all these things in 20 meetings of 40 minutes each."

The theatre is not a path that you can easily forget.

It is a seed that bursts into you and will never leave you. I'm sure that Emily will still remember this beautiful journey we made together in a few years.

A sharing path of acceptance.

A virtual space where I can only succeed if I am myself. You can laugh at yourself and at others, without offence, because I feel the same of you.

A virtual space where sincere emotions meet each other.

It is necessary a dialogue. This is the only way to get to an accurate understanding of the text, but this is my experience, idea, and choice to do theatre and live. Thanks, Emily.
