Rome

Rome is the eternal city; it has been described by writers, poets, songwriters, painters, and sculptors for this reason, for the sparkle of the moon that makes us fall in love, for the Tiber with its Isola Tiberina and the Broken Bridge (Ponte Rotto), which have been there since the city's beginnings. The Imperial Forums (Fori Imperiali) and Ostia Antica archaeological site give us the pleasure of walking on the streets built by the ancient Romans, the most skilled builders in the world.

In Rome, you can stop for months, for years, to study art history; everyone has passed through Rome. You can walk, and in every corner you turn, you find yourself in the times of Romulus and Remus, of Caesar, of the Borgias, of Fascism, an immense town that hosts the Vatican City with its churches and the magnificent Vatican Museums.

Speaking of museums, Rome also has many. Just think of the Capitoline Museums, Galleria Borghese, Palazzo Barberini, National Gallery of Modern Art, Ara Paris, and Museum of Civilizations.

When looking at the monuments that never have a single true father and never belong to a single historical period, think of Castel Sant'angelo's history and the Fori Imperiali's splendour, especially during the night with the magical illuminations that point to them. Everyone loves the young and chatty walks in Trastevere, Piazza Navona, showing us the disputes between Bernini and Borromini and the more modern fire eaters, giving us a magic atmosphere while waiting for the old Befana.

The Roman fountains carry a thousand stories and come from a thousand historical periods; who wouldn't want to bathe on the night of August in the water of the Barcaccia or at the Fontanone or the Trevi Fountain. I would like to, but please don't do it; it would mean destroying them.

Who needs to learn what the Colosseum is like? "Er cuppolone" from the Gianicolo, and on a sweltering summer evening, you go up there to get some fresh air and watch the magic of Rome.

What do Romans love? Being outside, chatting, laughing, joking, hugging each other but not letting anyone think that they are not excellent workers, ours is a large city, rich and poor, cultured and ignorant, complete and never empty, violent and calm but always present and well educated.

Also, it is polite during the significant cultural events it hosts, such as the May 1st concert for workers. The concerts at the Circo Massimo are a great effort, but what a thrill. Remember when, after the pandemic, Måneskin reopened the doors of live concerts right at the Circo Massimo? The summer theatrical shows are where you sit on the big stone steps of the Theater of Ostia Antica or in Caracalla.

Rome must be explored during the day and at night, listened to, and visited in every season. If you tell me what you would like to see in Rome, I will help you find what you need to sleep and get around.

Enjoy our eternal city.
